In NBC News Exclusive, Putin Replies in Interview – Much More Than Anyone Else Did
In NBC News Exclusive, Putin responds to VP Joe Biden calling him a “killer” in their CNN town hall debate. The full interview will air in full on NBC News at 5 PM ET. It begins with the moderator inviting both candidates to speak. After a brief introduction by moderator, the candidates were asked to start. The first question posed was about the Iraq war. The candidates went back and forth discussing the situation in good detail.
“You called Russia’s president a killer, I’m not sure that you can prove that,” said Obama. “I happen to believe that people who commit murder are going to have a sense of honor, even if they don’t understand what they’re doing.” “I think it is important for us not to become involved in a military confrontation with Russia over this dispute, but I also think it is important to stand up for our values, and believe in ourselves and our nation.” Later in the interview, Obama was asked about the comments about nations fighting each other. “The United States of America is a nation that is peaceful and civilized, and we will continue to be so,” said the president.
“Do you realize what the Americans are going through right now?” asked Obama. “No,” responded Putin. “This is your loss and your gain. It is up to you to use your head and not to give into pressures and to be bought into foolishness.” “Well, actually that is exactly what’s happening,” said Obama.
On ” NBC News Online” anchor, reporter Jennifer Matthews was able to confirm that the prime minister did indeed use the line
She also reported that it was said during a private conversation. She read a portion of the transcript on the website in order to correct inaccuracies that had been reported in other outlets. In the report, however, she did not release the exact quote and had also omitted the context of the conversation in which it was said. There was no explanation as to why the quote was omitted.
“I also did not regret saying it because I thought it was clear to everybody that he is not a stupid man,” added President Obama. “He is not someone who does not know the value of being loyal to his country or his colleagues.” He went on to explain how difficult it was to deal with Russian President when he decided to side with China instead. “In fact, those negotiations ultimately jeopardized the American-led global effort to isolate and penalize Russia for its attempts to destabilize Europe and the United States-led world order,” he added. “But you can understand why I wouldn’t want to talk about that.”
Asked if he considered himself a smart man, the prime minister told reporters that he was
“I was just talking about a very professional sports guy, an actor, a very good chess player, a very wise man,” he said. “I did not mean to offend anyone. I just wanted to bring up an issue which is there are people who are much better at negotiation than the prime minister.”
When asked if he thought the report was fair to the Russian leader, he replied, “No. Of course not
Everyone should be allowed to have their own views and they are free to express them, but we cannot accept someone who is repeating unsourced information on television. There is nothing new in this report, all it shows is what the mass media is trying to sell us.”
As previously stated, The Big Interview is merely a news exclusive in which the prime minister of Russia talks to NBC News reporter via satellite. So what exactly was the discussion about? Well, according to the report, the prime minster talked about his personal life, but refused to get into details. This may come as a surprise, considering the personal life of the leader of the world’s largest country has hardly been covered in the Western media. The interview was also supposed to include some interesting topics such as the Chechnya conflict, his views on global warming, the forthcoming G8 summit, relations with the USA, the recent economy and so on.
